Last week I asked y’all to help me with my daughter. And you did. It really was heartwarming and deeply encouraging to read your words of guidance, of empathy, of strength, feeling your warmth.
Thank you.
Oh, and yeah, things are cool now.
I combined many of the techniques I read, and in the end, learned for myself that she’s acting her age – that she’s twelve and she’s right on track, even if it’s not the track of my choosing. In the end, while I need to parent her, to shepherd her through her early years, she is not mine to control.
Tough lesson, especially for me, as I have control issues and am a stereotypical male, full of machismo and delusions of grandeur. But I swallowed my medicine, and eased off the gas, giving her space to breathe, to grow, to continue on her own path.
And, bless her dear heart, she repaid me with a large helping of kindness and respect.
Thank you all, sincerely, I owe you each a snifter of cognac.
