Whoa Nelly!

turtle road warning signI am not an energetic type of person. I would say I’m more like a turtle than a chipmunk. Of course there is nothing wrong with being a turtle. The problem comes when you’re a turtle who wants to be a chipmunk. You can see all the chipmunks hurrying through life and you feel like you’re getting left behind. Just think of all the wonderful things you could do if you could only be more like them!

You know those chipmunk types don’t you? They’re always running around, conquering the world, busy, busy, busy. Chipmunks are so productive. The faster they move the more they accomplish. Chipmunks make me nervous. Can’t they just hold still for a minute? I can’t even get a good look at them with all their scurrying.

Turtles, on the other hand, are slow and methodical. Don’t try to hurry a turtle because you will just end up frustrated, and woeful is the turtle that tries to hurry herself. Can you imagine a turtle stumbling full steam ahead, tripping over herself to accomplish 27 things while trying to get to a meeting on time? That is just an accident waiting to happen. Of course I do this far too often, and if it weren’t so sad it would be comical.

A turtle that rushes through life leaves a wake of disaster behind her; lost keys, burnt toast, forgotten appointments, an unorganized home, and unfulfilled responsibilities. She is trying so hard to do everything that she does nothing well. She will spend her days making herself and everyone around her miserable.

If you are a chipmunk, then by all means, live your life going a hundred miles an hour. You go girl! But if you are a turtle, then stop dreaming about being a chipmunk or you will just be unhappy. There is only one solution for a frazzled unhappy turtle. Slowwwww dowwwwn! It wasn’t an accident that you were born to be who you are. If you accept it and work within your means, then I’m confident you will slowly live a great life, while your chipmunk friends are scurrying about, too busy to notice.
