Two Very Different Peas In A Pod

August 3rd, 2007 by Karly Campbell · No Comments

peasIn the past month or two that I have been homeschooling I’ve learned quite a few things. I’ve learned that a lot of people believe that dinosaurs were on Noah’s Ark. I’ve learned that Mesopotamia is not pronounced mezz-oh-pot-ah-mee-ah. I’ve learned that the Pyramids are actually tombs (yes, I really did not know that, prior to reading about it with my son). I’ve learned the difference between cardinal and ordinal numbers (For real. Did not know that.). I’ve learned a lot.

And all of those things I’ve learned are great. Very interesting to know. It makes me feel much smarter now that my knowledge is now (FINALLY!) at a second grade level.

However, these things I’ve learned? They are nothing compared to some of the things I have learned about my children while trying to teach them.

I have learned that Eeyore is positively fascinated with science. He will ask question upon question about things that I have never found interesting until I finally fall over from pure exhaustion and tell him to go play a video game. (Kidding! Sort of.)

He is an excellent reader and lately I’ve been catching him read. For fun. I, too, love to read and it makes me so happy to see that he is going to be that way as well.

I’ve learned that Cindy-Lu is quite the little artist. When her Bubba is writing something she must also have a peen-cil and paper to color with.

She also loves to pretend to read. When she notices Eeyore with a book she goes and grabs one as well. Not only is she learning that reading is fun from me, she is also learning it from her brother.

I’ve seen Eeyore exhibit more patience with his sister than I would have thought possible. At times when I want to scream at her and stick her out by the road for the trash man he quietly talks her into calming down and playing nicely. He is a great brother now and is one day going to be an excellent father.

Cindy-Lu is a rotten little thing (that I love to pieces regardless), but I already knew that. And I also already knew that Eeyore was a sensitive little boy who wishes to never hurt anyones feelings. Cindy-Lu is outgoing where Eeyore is reserved. Cindy-Lu is a dare-devil where Eeyore is frightened. Eeyore is patient where Cindy-Lu is most certainly not.

Eeyore and Cindy-Lu. Two completely different people that I am getting to know more and more every day and in different ways. Ways that I never would have known them had I not decided to be their teacher as well as their mother.
