Bryan Johnston has an interesting article up over at The Imperfect Parent. It’s about stepping in and parenting someone else’s kid. It’s not a real complicated question, but it’s certainly situational.
Here’s my take:
If I am standing right next to my child with no outside distractions and I’m not bound and gagged, I can’t imagine circumstances where someone would step in. If someone did see fit, I would more than likely call them on it. On the other hand, if I am across the room or removing a splinter or feeding a baby, or talking to the primary school nurse or eating bon-bons, by all means step right up. (Well, not you. I don’t know you from Adam. If there’s no one being hurt or in danger or eating worms then you should maybe butt out.) But if you’re my friend or relation, or at least have some remote understanding of me or my kids, the floor is yours. Step up, step in, or at the very least point me to the issue.
I’ll thank you.
What’s your take on it?
