Giving New Meaning to Parenting

Time Lapse Of A 9 Month-Old At Play

February 2nd, 2009 by Stu Mark · 1 Comment

Francis Vachon posted this to YouTube. His description: “Time laps of Charles-Edward, my 9 month old son, playing with his toys and creating chaos in the dinning room.” – I find it inspired, charming, and found myself welling up with memories of my own children. I was hoping to share this will you, and have you share with the rest of us your memories of your kids when they were small.

I found myself wanting to see the video slowed down, and zoomed in, so that we could see that sweet little baby as he played his way around the room!

When Twinks was that little, I was often accused of being a “helicopter parent”; I would lie on the floor with her, and play along… talking to her, and telling her everything from the color of the ball she was holding (Blue! Like the sky!), to how the sunshine coming through the window felt (Warm, like when Mommy or Daddy wrap you in a blanket!) and even how the carpet was soft, but the wood floor is hard. I watched her close up – and far away. I interacted with her whenever possible. I was fascinated, charmed, mesmerized by her.

Because I knew she would be our only child.

And I had to fill my heart with those memories.

So, the next time you see a “helicopter parent”, remember that sometimes we hover because it is our only chance to see… Because it really does go by too fast, and we want to hold every memory we can.
