I always laugh when I see that on a piece of paper in the middle of a manual or a set of instructions. I sneer at the designer who couldn’t figure out how to make the number of pages line up. I disparage the consumers of the manual who can’t tell that a page is blank without having someone tell them.
Except.
I’m used to pages being full. I’m used to pages being covered with writing, with every bit fun of something profound… or at least full. The idea of leaving some space, on purpose, is hard to fathom.
We hit an evening in our house this week where nothing was scheduled, where the kids were busy with homework and the adults were left on the sofa. We tried to figure out what to do.
We could have just gratefully written on the time, “this page intentionally left blank.”
Maybe it would help the number of pages in the book come out right.
