My friend Chris is a Rock Star. He is so immersed in social networking and media that people near and far hunt him down to get his thoughts and opinions about functioning in today’s world. I love this post about rocking your blog. The standout line for me is this: “Participation is the secret sauce to any community.”
GNMParents is nearing it’s one year anniversary. There are handfuls of talented folks who come here every week to share their experiences. To share their knowledge and to seek and lend support. To talk and to listen and to be heard.
Who are they, who are we speaking to? What is it that you keep coming back for? What do you love? What can we offer you that you aren’t getting? What can we do to increase participation in this fast growing community?
Please de-lurk and take a moment to share a thought or 10. Leave a comment or email Megin at hatchew at hotmail dot com. Tell us, what can we do for you?
Oh, and if you’re enjoying the blog, please take a moment to subscribe. It’s free and spam-less. Click on the orange button up top or enter your email address to the right.

I come here because I love the writers and want to be invited to their houses for dinner again soon. : )

Chris,
We’ve never met, but you are formally invited to my house for the best home-cooked filet mignon you’ve ever tasted, guaranteed.

Okaaaay, so what the GUYS come here for, apparently, is the food. Lovely. Here we have a really useful, intelligent, funny group of kind people who help each other get through the myriad crises of childrearing, and the guys bring along what? Their stomachs.

This seems perfectly reasonable. : )
I love the fun point of view mingled with the occasional heart-felt moments.

I come back for the times when I don’t feel judged for how I parent my children-so often anymore it’s almost like every single move you speak of is followed and judged, and I hate it! I have enough on my plate without worrying if my kids are watching too much TV! I respect the opinions offered, and that they aren’t offered in a zealous manner.
And the dorkyness. I love me some dork action.

I visit because there’s a greater diversity of parenting styles and viewpoints here than among the bloggers I typically read.

Did someone say filet mignon?

Okay, I haven’t got steak. How about fillet of king mackarel, baked with herbs? my son was driving when it was caught, which makes it even yummier. I love having fishermen in the family!

At first, I came here because Our Much Beloved Stu asked me to. (and I looked around, and went “Hmmm….” and then didn’t come back for a month or so. Mostly because at the time it looked to me like it was all “baby stuff”, and we are past that here at our house.)
Then one day when I came back there was an article (sorry - I don’t remember which one) that caught my eye on the front page. I thought “Hmmm, I must check here more often”.
Now I check in daily.
I’m hooked.
I come back because I can relate to most of what is written here; that is also why I participate on an increasingly frequent basis here.
Keep doing what you are doing. I think it’s working!

Trust me, no one wants to come to my house for dinner. Dessert, yes. Dinner, no.
I come for the same reason as SM - diversity of style, viewpoint and language.

mmmm…. steak…
Actually, I love most food.
And anyone who wants my filet mignon recipe, or any others, email me, I am very happy to share.
And as for why I read GNMP, add my vote for diversity. I learn so very much from this place and these people, you people.

as a new parent it’s great to know that i am not alone. i also learn a ton from the experienced writers in terms of ideas, discipline, etc. i think there is a good amount of diversity in the contributions ranging from serious to humorous, advice offering vs. seeking, and offering a wide range of issues. i can’t think of any ways to change the site quite honestly!

Well, I’m a bit late to the party.
I’m keep coming back for the differing points of view. It’s not often that you find one place with so many takes on the same subject - being a parent.
