I’ve been pulling together some resources, to share with parents, about kids who use the internet. This is not an article about safety, but if you aren’t sure how to approach that, you should do a quick Google search. There is a lot of great information available. This is intended more as an offering and a request.
Here are some of the Hatch-lings’ (oh, quiet, it’s been a looong week here) favorite places to be online:
Fun with Educational Merit:
Timez Attack (Multiplication facts with a great big troll!)
PBS Kids (Curious George is a big hit with the 3 year old.)
Peep (Arguably the best kids show, ever.)
Lego (We like the puzzles section.)
Fun Brain (A wide variety of games.)
Webkinz (I am addicted to Quizzy’s Word Challenge.)
Kid Videos (Try Doodlez, and the Godzilla show to start out.)
Surf Net Kids (The geography map games rock.)
All Ages- Parents and Kids:
That Quiz (A place to practice math facts- all levels.)
One Word (You’re given a one word writing prompt and 60 seconds to freely type about that word.)
Just One More Book (A short podcast that ofers some seriously great conversations about kid’s books.)
Swimming in Literary Soup (Another podcast sharing some fantastic book clustering, it’s perfect for preparing for a library trip.)
Snuggles Podcast (A short podcast that “reads” to your child. I think it might be great for car trips).
And while we are talking about reading, do you know about the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program?
Activities:
Mexican Metal Tooling (Lots of great activities throughout the site. I can’t wait to try this one.)
Toilet Paper Cord Holders (A simple and quick but seriously cute use for an empty TP roll.)
And a Few Gift Highlights from Etsy:
Memory Bag (This is a sweet portable memory game.)
Superhero Cape (Please, show me a kid who isn’t a superhero!)
Daisy Chain (Lovely stuff for moms and kids and very reasonably prices.)
These are some of the places we like to be. Oh, I almost forgot the They Might Be Giants free kids video podcast! FUN!
So, how about you? Leave us a comment, or if you have a lot to add, (and your own blog) link to your own post. Please, invite me (us) into your own corner of the internet!
