School’s In!

numbers 1 through 0 on a jukeboxMy time as a homeschooling mother of one is coming to an abrupt halt. Cindy-Lu, age 3, will begin pre-school (for real this time) at home with me. I sent her to a “real” pre-school for a couple of months, but it wasn’t working out schedule wise, so I pulled her out and decided we would just do pre-school at home. Well…that was a couple of months ago and so far? Not so much in the way of formal schooling. I know! I know! She’s 3! She doesn’t need formal schooling. I can hear you all rolling your eyes at me.

I happen to be the one that needs the formal schooling. I need a list of things to accomplish in one day, one week, one month, and yes, one year. If I don’t have a list of things to do and a way to hold myself accountable, I just don’t seem to ever get it done. Sure, I’ve been slowly trying to teach Cindy-Lu to recognize the numbers 1-9. Yes, she can count aloud to ten. She knows her alphabet. She even knows the sounds each and every letter makes which, in my opinion, proves what a GENIUS my little baby is. (Want your little baby to be a genius as well? I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this video. I truly can not take any credit for Cindy-Lu knowing the sounds the letters make.) I think that she is ready for more though.

Next week I am starting the Letter of the Week program, available free online. I’ve stocked up on the recommended library books, I’ve hit the grocery store for snacks that begin with the letter “A” for our first week. I’ve hung a bulletin board on which we can hang her work. I’ve been busy with the planning of my little pre-school.

The only thing I am worried about is how I will handle the increased time I need to spend planning and teaching. Right now I usually spend around 3 hours a day either planning, checking work, or teaching. This will probably only increase by about an hour with the addition of pre-school. I think. I hope. I don’t know. I’ll let you know how it goes next week.
