Over the River and Through the Woods

a riverBecause my triathlon buddy and I are slightly insane, we thought it would be a great idea to see if we can squeeze in a triathlon in August. I have to admit that when I first started training for triathlons, I couldn’t understand why the triathletes in my spinning class would ask me what triathlons I was planning on doing. Excuse me? Did you just say triathlons? Obviously the intense spinning class had cut off the oxygen flow to their brains. I mean there couldn’t be another explanation for it. Well, either that or just a really weird sense of humor.

However, as time went on, I realized that if I was going to spend all this time training, there was no reason not to do more than one. After all, in New England they run an event every weekend. Sometimes they run several.

Which leads me to the river. Yes, literally a river. Our big triathlon this fall is in September. However, my training buddy hasn’t done a triathlon since May and really would like to do one before our big one. With it being summer, we had a hard time finding a weekend that worked into our schedules. Next weekend does. However, our choice was to do the triathlon requiring 6 miles of running or the one with 3 miles of running but swimming in a river. According to my training buddy, a life-long MA resident, they’ve pulled several bodies out of this river in the past few decades. Nice. However, unlike some of the other bodies of water, there aren’t too many sketchy items “along for the swim.” The only other challenge is that every few years they haven issues with the current basically slowing down every triathlete, and no that doesn’t mean that the triathlon is cancelled. Hey, I guess you pick your battles.

Good for you. A battle indeed. Meanwhile I shall admire from afar on the couch, battling which ‘remote’ to use.
    Very best wishes
