Our Family Reunions: No One Fought!

August 25th, 2007 by Wacky Mommy · No Comments

vail in summerWe just got back from two (two!) 2 family reunions with my husband’s family. One with his mom’s side, one with his dad’s side. In Denver, we saw Hockey God’s mom, uncle, cousins and their families. It was Western Welcome Week in Littleton, the suburb where his family lives.

In Vail, we saw his dad and stepmom, from Iowa City, Iowa; aunt, uncle and cousins from Pittsburgh, Pa.; cousin from West Virginia; sister from Arizona, brother from Denver and their assorted spouses and children. There were twenty-three of us total in Vail, for five nights and six days.

Xanax may have been involved (for some of us); margaritas and Bloody Marys may have been involved (for others of us).

I went into it with the jitters, and not just because of the 2,600 driving miles involved. I don’t always do well in large social settings. (See: Mouth. Insert: Foot.) Or small ones, for that matter. But it all went well — the rooms were lovely in our condo/apartment. Lovely does not do Vail justice. Vail is spectacular. All the furs! All the jewels! All the skinny arms! (And that’s just the men.)

The only furs we saw, for real, were in shop windows. It was August, for pete’s sake. They don’t let you drive cars in Vail Village — you take the shuttle bus. It was perfect. The view was sublime. The kids got to swim every day with their cousins, and we broke off into small groups for horseback riding, shopping trips, and lunches. Everyone wore their cowboy hats, and no one fought.

No one fought, did you hear me?

So, has your family held a reunion lately, yes or no?
