My Favorite Homeschool Websites

May 2nd, 2008 by Karly Campbell · No Comments

poodle with glasses at desk with book and calculatorThe school year is slowly winding down around here. Yeah, yeah. We still have a month to go. So what? A month isn’t that long! Besides, if we worked REAL hard, we could probably finish up in two weeks. OR! We could be REAL lazy and get done in a month. I think we all know which approach I am taking. (Hint: Before writing this post I left a comment on another blog about how to take care of poop stains in infant clothing. My advice? Throw the clothes in the garbage. Practical? No. Easy? Yes.)

Honestly, I’m too busy planning for next year to really tackle the end of this year. I know I have the whole summer to plan for next year, but I LOVE PLANNING! I’d much rather dream about how perfect next year is going to be than finish up with this year! Hoping to spread the love of planning and dreaming and wishing and hoping I thought I would share some of my favorite homeschooling resources with you guys. But, in return, I expect YOU to share your favorites with me!

Here goes:

My favorite website for worksheets is abcteach. We really don’t use a lot of worksheets here, but sometimes I like them. Every now and then I go crazy and print out a bunch of worksheets and use them on days that we don’t have much else scheduled. This site is also good for coloring pages, file folder games and creating your own spelling worksheets. They have over 5,000 free printables, but I went ahead and upgraded to the full membership for $35 a year. Totally worth it!

When I am researching a curriculum the first thing I do is head over to Homeschool Reviews to see what other people think about it. I REALLY wish it was set up more like Amazon with an average rating of each program, but its not. Those little stars at Amazon are really awesome, you know? At this site you have to actually read each review, but it’s still a great site if you have a bit of time.

For third grade I am being REALLY BRAVE and piecing together my own language arts program. I can be pretty picky and after this year’s language arts program I really feel like we need something EXCELLENT for next year. We used Sonlight this year and I didn’t like their approach to LA at all. I need some structure and some proof that there is actual learning going on and, well, I just need something different. This website has some great links to free online scope and sequences which is very helpful in creating your own curriculum.

Our Los Banos has some great printables and a FREE American History curriculum. I know! Free! American History! I almost went that route for American history, but recently changed my mind and decided to buy a curriculum. Because I am made of money. Or because I am too lazy to make myself go to the library each week. I prefer to think it is because I have all this money to toss around, because OF COURSE I do! We’re a one income family of four! Why WOULDN’T we have money to blow? It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with my laziness! Ahem. Back to the real world.

One last favorite of mine is this site for books. You decide what topic you want to study and then type it into the box in the middle of the page. It will bring up a list of books and websites that all pertain to the topic you are searching for. Neat, huh?

Now, spill it. What are your favorite websites? They don’t even have to be homeschooling websites. You can tell me your favorite website for kids’ clothes or recipes or even your favorite blog (besides mine, of course).
