Lunatic Learns a Lot

complicated computer screenEditor’s note: Kid Concepts is a feature comprised of essays written by kids, giving all of us an opportunity to view their world. Please welcome Grey Gallagher to GNMParents. According to his mom, “Grey is a nine year old country bumpkin who likes to read, run, and raise chickens, but he is happiest when he is making other people laugh.” Today, he brings us an essay on home schooling and the fun of learnin’ stuff:

I’ve been home schooled my whole life except for a couple months that I went to preschool. I like home schooling and I’m planning on home schooling my kids. If I have any of my own brats that is. It’s fun because I can learn anything I want but in school I would be assigned things to learn and might not have time to work on my own stuff. I’m learning some cool stuff now like computer programming, piano and all about different famous people.

I decided to learn computer programming because my Mom told me about Ashley, a seventeen year old girl who learned when she was nine and now she makes seventy thousand dollars a month running her own website. Her own Mother works for her and she pays her a salary. Some day I want my Mom working for me so I can see what it’s like to boss her around! P.S. I know she won’t even think about it!

Now I have to take back all the rude things I said about my Mother. Well, maybe not all of them but she finally put me in piano lessons. I’m glad she kept me out for a while because when I did start my teacher put me in a more advanced book than the other beginners. My sister is taking lessons too and my book is a lot more fun than her book. She says that’s a mighty rude things to say but it’s true!

I’ve also started writing my own music. I got the idea from a book we’re reading called “Boyhoods of Great Composers, Book 1″ by Catherine Gough. I thought it was cool that Schubert is considered the fastest song writer there ever was and I thought I could try writing some of my own songs. I sit at the piano and start making up songs and then write it down if I like it. My baby sister is learning from me because one day she scribbled on a piece of paper and then took it to the piano and started playing it. It was pretty funny!

I’m also learning about famous Americans from a series of books called “Childhood of Famous Americans.” They’re written by several different authors and I’m going to read all of them. One of my favorite books was about Abraham Lincoln. I thought it was cool that Johnny Appleseed visited him and his family. Reading these books makes me want to be like the people in them and live my life like they do. My sister really likes them too. Maybe you should get them for your kids.

If you’re thinking about home schooling your kids you should do it. Or just home school yourself. You could learn a lot of cool stuff!

Bleep, bleep, bleep. That’s all folks!
