Editor’s note: This is the second article of our new feature: Kid Concepts - These are essays written by kids, giving parents an opportunity to view the world as seen through the eyes of children, not adults. Please welcome 11 year-old Destiny Mae to GNMParents. She might have the perfect book suggestions to get your kids reading more!
My name is Destiny. I love books and I read about three chapter books a day, and it isn’t just good for your health like you hear in school but it is also pretty fun!! Like me - I’ve always liked stories and whenever someone was telling a story in class when I was younger I would rush there and listen quietly. Stories are very exciting because you don’t know what’s happening next and if it’s a really good book and you have to stop you just can’t wait until you get to read it next. It is also good for you because you can do it anytime you want but reading helps you learn more things and if you get into REALLY good books you will read more of that series or that author. I know it’s kind of lame but I love books with food in it, especially desserts. I love to read.
Here is my first book review for GNM Parents:
Sir Toby Jingle’s Beastly Journey, by Wallace Tripp
Sir Toby Jingle is the greatest night in the whole kingdom but all the beasts and animals were afraid of him because of all the stories of him but sir Toby is planning too meet his old enemy’s, a griffin, a bear, a tiger, a dragon, and a troll. Will he live?
What I like about the story is of course it’s fantasy and I like it because it has a griffin in it and griffin’s are my most favorite mythical creature in the entire universe.

First, very cool tip about Wallace Tripp. I knew about him from the Amelia Bedelia books, but never knew he wrote his own.
Second, I think griffins are pretty excellent as well. Do you think they can fly further because of their extra muscle, or does it weigh them down?

Destiny-
Welcome to GNMParents. It is great that you’re such a book lover. I can’t believe you read multiple chapter books a day.
When I was 11 started a fire in my bedroom trying to sneak read after lights out. Not a good plan.
I can’t wait to hear more about the books that you read!
