What a great Hot Stuff last week
we had a record number of votes, and it’s another great line up this week. Vote for your favourite in the comments, voting closes on Thursday morning, in the wee small hours if you’re in the US of A. The winner will receive an ‘I’m Hot Stuff’ award and the envy of us all!
Babysitting
Ten tips for babysitting from a parent and former sitter, Sandy sent this one in to parent hacks. When I was a young teen I did a fair bit of babysitting myself. Numbers five, nine and ten would definitely make my list now that I am a parent, I just need to find a responsible teen
Sickness
Sickness seems to be a hot topic at the moment. Vicky of Little Legends has ten tips for dealing with sickness *and* children simultaneously. Number 10. Now that’s what I would do
Money
Highlighted by Megin and coming from one of my favourite blogs, 23 ways to improve your finances (in a weekend) over at The Simple Dollar.
50 ways to save money on your grocery bill by Thrifty Mommy has been nominated by Megin. I cut my grocery bill by around 20% (not to mention what I save in time) from doing it online and getting it delivered, and that is taking the delivery cost into consideration!
Work/Life Balance
Career and Kids has a great post on transitioning between work time and family time.
Positive Parenting
Yes, yes, yes. Be a good dad is talking about the power of yes. A nice reminder for us all, I think ![]()

Stu has nominated this amazing folding chair. I so need one of these for that once a year occasion when you decide to invite way more people than you have space for (aka Christmas, Thanksgiving…)
Barb has nominated this video of a kitten who is struggling with her (?) first words, all say aaahhhh

Hi Erica — I’ll *always* vote for anything related to Cute Overload.
Just wanted to make sure you were clear on the credit for that video Barb submitted to you; it’s apparently over a year old and belongs to someone called “Atahualpa1″ on YouTube:

Cheers!

Thanks Theo, the Hot Stuff Award is for bringing it to our attention. It doesn’t matter if it’s an old video either, it made Barb smile so that’s good enough for us. Good Luck.

Madame Chairperson, I cast one Yea vote for the Simple Dollar link. The detail alone is worth my vote, not to mention that they do the math for you (like the first step of switching to CFL lightbulbs).

Thrifty Mommy has my vote, who knew there were so many ways to cut spending. As mom of 4 boys this information was very helpful. If you have not read this artcle, please scroll up and click on the link. You will be glad you did!

Thrifty-momma is a great column. The basic down-to-earth stuff, with a lot of common sense involved. It’s amazing how many people have never been taught this sort of stuff. Great articles and pointed at what you need.

I vote for the Career amd Kids article about transition from work to home. I just recently had this conversation with my sister in law because some of our relatives (without kids) were trying to convince her to change jobs because her commute is so long. I was the only one who understood why she likes her commute – I definitely need my 20 min each way to “shift gears” and relax. Now if I could just get him husband to stop calling me and wanting to talk during my entire drive to work…
