Giving New Meaning to Parenting

Graduation Freedom

June 6th, 2007 by Busy Mom · 19 Comments

cap-and-gown.jpgMy youngest graduated from preschool last night (*wails: “Mah baayybee!”*). This is the first time we’ve had a preschool graduation ceremony in the family.

As a matter of fact, my 12 year old pointed out that the youngest will be the first of the three of them at any level to wear a cap and gown. I have no idea if the cap and gown thing for little kids is just a Southern thing, but, that’s what he wore.

In all his cap and gown splendor, he walked up to the front of the gathering, and, received a certificate. We even got an award for having more than one child go through the program. We are tuition paying over-achievers, I guess.

Despite the fact that many attendees had arm loads of gifts and balloons for their graduates, we just took a few pictures, and, told him he could pick where he wanted to go for dinner.

As we walked into the restaurant, I tried to assess if he knew a graduation was kind of a big deal, and, if he had fun.

I asked him a couple of questions, and, he thought for a minute, and, replied, “I’m not wearing any underwear”.
